Hello, and welcome back to our blog here at Nabors Garage Doors. This is part two of our blog series about considerations for choosing a garage door for your home. Windows

Along with the materials you choose for your garage doors, your windows will add style and value to your door. Many homeowners enjoy having natural light enter through more transparent windows while others prefer just to have them as a design, so instead, they opt for tinted windows. Others may not like the look of the windows at all and opt for a garage door without them. There are a lot of options here for you so be sure to take a look at all of them.

Safety Features

Safety is of the utmost importance when choosing and maintaining a garage door. Counterbalance springs are used by the garage door to lift and close the door itself. Instead of the garage door opener doing all the work, it gives a push to start moving the door. When the door is closed, the springs are coiled up, and when it is closed, they are unwound as the door opens. However, when these springs are stretched out and break, they can be dangerous and result in injury, that’s why you need a system that keeps them covered up in case that does happen.

Motion detection is another safety feature. Essentially, there will be two little sensors on either side of the garage door. If anything passes through them as the door is closing, the door will go back up. This is to prevent people or objects from getting trapped underneath as it is closing.

Auto-reverse is the third safety feature of a garage door. This is the function that causes the garage door to reverse directions if it encounters any resistance or bumps into anything. Like the sensors, this will prevent injury and avoid breaking anything that is laying in the way of the garage door.

Warranties

Like any part of your home that you invest in, you’re going to want to make sure there’s a warranty. Although garage doors are built to last, accidents do happen. You could drive through your garage door, a hail storm could damage it, or it could get dented in some other way. Your warranty will allow you to escape these situations without having to pay for the whole garage door over again. Many garage door manufacturers offer one-year warranties so be sure to fill out the warranty forms and submit them right after having your garage door installed.
